| En uke i Arabia i januar var ikke å forakte. Ida og jeg dro ned til den Arabiske Emiraten Dubai for å nyte varmen, bade, shoppe og oppleve midtøsten i den persiske gulf. Vi fløy via Praha og bestemte oss kjapt for at de 8 timene med venting på Praha flyplass måtte byttes ut med en tur inn til byen (For de av dere ikke som har følt Praha Flyplass på kroppen, er stikkord: ussel mat, kjedelig taxfree og særs få butikker). Med kofferten pakket for ørkensafari og solsenger, ble møtet med Tsjekkia en kald opplevelse. Vi hutret rundt i Praha, og som de turistene vi var, fikk vi med oss den astronomiske klokken, broen med den greia man skulle ta på for lykke og den kirken som jeg ikke vet hva heter.I Dubai hadde Jonas og Marthe vært en uke allerede, og hadde kartlagt de 17 kjøpesenterne som var på USA-størrelse. I løpet av uken var vi innom noen av de store kjøpesentrene, hvorav ett inneholdt et innendørs skianlegg, to hadde flere kinosaler enn Colosseum og ett hadde innendørs tivoli. Felles for de alle var at det vandret rike sjeiker rundt og brukte oljepengene sine. Ida og jeg prøvde oss på innendørs slalom/snowboard, og kan meddele at arabere på ski er ennå morsommere enn dansker på ski.Den andre dagen vi var i Dubai, dro vi ut i ørkenen rundt byen Dubai for å ri på kamel. Ida og jeg døpte kjapt kamelen vår for Omar, og var særs fornøyde med å endelig sitte på ryggen til ørkenens slagskip…(?) Vi skulle også få stå på snowboard på sanddynene, men siden vi ikke hadde med oss sko ut i ørkenen, fikk vi ikke lov og måtte nøye oss med å ake på brettene.Vi hadde et par dager på beachen og en dag i ett vann-land kalt Wild Wadi som blant annet hadde den høyeste vannsklien utenfor nord Amerika. Ved siden av vannlandet lå også “verdens eneste 7 stjerners hotell” som de kaller Burj Al-Arab. Offesielt finnes det ikke mer enn 5-stjerers hotell, men på Burj Al-Arab er alle rom en to-etasjes suite med egen butler, så det er litt annen klasse over det enn på Grand Hotell i Oslo…Ellers var inntrykket av dubai en by på et tidlig stadium med mye forskjellige folk. En smeltedigel er det best beskrivende ordet av menneskene i Dubai. Beklager floskelen, men der er 200.000 innfødte eks-beduiner i Dubai, mens det totale antallet innbyggere er på 1.3 mill. En kjapp trigonometrisk hoderegning gir et stort antall innvandrere, hvor de fleste var fra Asia, og mange av de innflyttede var bygningsarbeidere. For bygge gjør de i Dubai. De bygger mye. På plakaten fremover står 70 nye skyskrapere på 5 år (i tillegg til de ca 150 de allerede har), verdens høyeste bygning og av meritter kan nevnes at 16% av all verdens heisekraner befinner seg i Dubai for tiden. Og for de av dere som vurderer å bosette seg i Dubai, kan jeg anbefale en residens på den nye, menneselagde øya Palmen. Og blir det aktuelt, anbefaler jeg å kjøpe residens av eiendomsforvalteren Damac. Kjøp en leilighet - få en Jaguar på kjøpet.
