Nå har vi kommet oss til Raleigh, som er hovedstaden i staten North Carolina. Her bor det et par hundretusen folk, og vi bor hos to av dem - Ida og Mike. Ida er gammel skolevenninne av min Ida (også kjent for mange som Idi Amin) og Mike er mannen som fikk Ida til å flytte fra kolde Norge over dammen til North Carolina.
Og det er ikke så rart, for her er det utrolig varmt. Vi løper fra air condition til air condition når vi ikke kjører bil med air condition. Nå har vi dratt fra deres hjem med aircon, via vår bil med aircon og til Wake County Public Library med aircon. Temperaturen ligger mellom 25 og 35 grader og det er høy luftfuktighet, så Preben og jeg har tenkt å hoppe i bassenget etter en tur i byen - mens Ida og Ida er på spa.
Veien fra New York til Raleigh var en 8 timers kjøretur som vi delte opp i to. Det vil si, vi kjørte NYC-Washington på formiddagen og så Washington-Raleigh på kvelden. Så vi fikk akkurat løpt rundt Washington som gale turister og tatt bilde av alt som er verdt å ta bilde av. Det hvite hus, Capitol hill og den svære bautasteinen som jeg ikke husker hva heter. Du vet den ved det lange vannet hvor Forrest Gump taler til hippiene… Uansett, var det kjapt inn og kjapt ut av Washington for å ta bilder – og få turens første bot. 100$ parkeringsbot. Første dagen. Takk.
