Livet i Guatemala

Nà har vi vaert 1,5 uker i Antigua..og vi har det veldig bra! Den første uka brukte vi mye til à bli kjent med byen og andre studenter. Vi gàr pà spràkkurs 4 timer om dagen, begge er fornøyde med privatlaereren sin. Vi pugger verb til den store gullmedalje i hàp om at vi er i stand til à snakke noe spansk nàr vi skal begynne à jobbe. Pà ettermiddagene og i helgene arrangerer skolen forskjellige aktiviteter. Vi ble med opp til Cerra de la Cruz som er et stort kors pà en høyde over byen. Der ble vi fulgt av to menn fra turistpolitiet. Det er visst helt nødvendig for ikke à bli ranet pà veien opp. Guatemaltekerne har det visst for vane à ligge i buskene hvis man gàr turer utenfor byen pà egen hànd. Heldigvis er Antigua en ganske trygg by nettopp pga av dette politiet som stàr pà alle steder det er mye folk. Nàr vi tar penger er det ogsà helst i banker som har vaepnet vakt utenfor.
Den første helga vàr i Guatemala dro vi, tre ander norske jenter og flere andre studenter til Lago de Atitlan. Det er en nyedelig innsjø som har blitt dannet i et gigantisk kraterhull. Innsjøen er omringet av vulkaner og rundt hele kanten ligger det smà puebloer med Mayastammer. Vi bodde i en landsby og besøkte tre av de andre med bàt. Dessverre er landsbyene veldig fattige. Mange av dem lever av turister som kjøper det de har laget selv. Veldig mye er fint, men ikke sà nyttig à ha med seg hjem til Norge. Jeg synes det var vanskeligst med alle de smà søte mayajentene som ville selge smàtteri. Vet ikke om det er riktig à kjøpe eller om det bare oppfordrer til at barn mà jobbe. Skal forhøre meg om det pà skolen en dag. De er i hvert fall utrolig nydelige og jeg har lyst til à ta med alle sammen hjem.
Turen ble ikke helt som den skulle da, for i den andre landsbyen fikk Karl kraftige og akutte smerter i magen og ryggen. Det gikk litt over da han drakk vann, men det murret litt resten av turen ogsaa. Da vi kom hjem oppdaget han et voldsomt utslett, store røde felter med hvite blemmer spredt over hele kroppen. Ei amerikansk dame som har jobbet i ambulanse i 7 àr ga han antihistamin mot en allergisk reaksjon og mente det var den nye T-skjorta. Hva det egentlig var vet vel ingen. Alle gikk ut for à spise, og etter middag holdt Karl pà à besvime. En av de norske jentene er sykepleier og kom heldigvis til unnsetning og kommanderte Karl i bakken. Den amerikanske kom ogsà pà banen og sa det var dehydrering. Dermed startet sirkuset som bare en amerikansk ambulansedame kan lage;) Oppstyr i restauranten, sendte reiselederen pà apoteket, skaffet taxi osv. osv. Karl ble sendt i seng og màtte drikke elektorlytter og pulver mot dehydrering og det som vaerre er. Dagen etter var ganske slitsom med en lang busstur hjem og feber. Vi hadde nok slàtt oss til ro med at det var dehydrering om ikke Karl følte at han màtt besvime etter denne dagen ogsà. Vi fant ut at det nok var lurt à dra til legen likevel, fikk tips pà skolen som en lege som snakker engelsk. Han var heldigvis en veldig bra lege som tok seg god tid til à sjekke grundig. Etter flerer prøver og noen timer senere fant de ut at Karl hadde fàtt i seg en type parasitt. Heldigvis fantes det piller mot dette og nà er han frisk som en fisk:) Dermed har samboerskapet Møllergàrd Kleive fàtt testet helsesystemet i Guatemala ogsà.
Denne helga blir nok heller rolig..skal se filmer pà en cafè med storskjerm og kanskje kjøpe litt mer varme klaer. Det er nemlig mye kaldere her enn man skulle tro, og ryktene sier at bare regntider slutter sà blir det enda kaldere. Har det supert likevel:) ¡Hasta luego!

Hei begge to, godt å høre at alt er vel med dere. Betryggende at dere er i gode hender ved behov. Det er liksom litt mindre problematisk at dere er så langt borte når kommunikasjon egentlig er like enkelt som om dere var i nærheten. Vi er nok litt misunnelige mht til opplevelsesmulighetene, men liker at dere får oppleve så mye. Ha det fint og det er snart jul og vi har ha litt snø allerede. Hasta luego. E og E.

Har funnet ut at sola her er sterk selv om vaeret ikke har vaert det beste. I dag var vi ute i 2 - 3 timer og sà Antigua spille hjemmekamp. Det var overskyet hele tiden, men jeg er knall solbrent. Bare en engelskmann som ble mer solbrent enn meg;)

Godt å høre at dere har det bra, tross Karl’s sykdom! Synes dere er tøffe!!!! Ikke bare,bare å reise til “ukjente marker”. Men du verden for en opplevelse dere har, samt mye å lære! Tenk hva dere lærer av kultur og språk! Blir jo misunnelig - men er glad på deres vegne. Dere forteller jo så masse som jeg også lærer av, selv i min alder! Jeg har det jo bare bra - dagene flyr. Rehabiliteringen av blokkene på terrassesiden er fortsatt ikke ferdig. Trist å ikke få benytte terrassen. Men vi har jo vært heldig med en fin høst hittil. Håper den varer en stund til slik at jeg får ryddet utenfor stuevinduet før vinteren setter inn. Ønsker dere en riktig fin tur videre og håper dere får være friske.
