Inca Trail & Machu Picchu

Vàrt første møte med Andesfjellene var da vi fløy fra Lima, som ligger pà østkysten av Peru til Cusco, som ligger i Andesfjellene. Høydeforskjellen pà 3.500 meter i løpet av en 40 minutters flytur ble sterk kost. Vi màtte heldigvis ikke poppe pilleboksen med 100 Diamox tabletter, men vi kjente at lungene ikke tok opp like mye oksygen som i lavlandet. En veldig spesiell følelse. Etter to hele dager her oppe ble vi derimot vant til høyden og dro videre inn i Andesfjellene for à starte vandringen mot Machu Picchu.
Incaindianernes rike spente seg over et omràde fra Equador og Peru ned til Argentina og Chile fra àr 1200 til rundt 1500. Hovedstaden i Incariket var Cusco, som betyr navle pà Quechua (Incaspràk). Fra den gamle incahovedstaden gàr det utallige stier nordover mot Equador og sørover mot Argentina og Chile. En av disse stiene gàr fra Cusco til Machu Picchu, og er 112 km lang. Dette er den mest populaere “Inca Trail“, men man starter sà langt som 82 km inn i Andesfjellene, for stien fra Cusco inn til 82 km merket, er erodert bort eller er blitt ødelagt i jordskjelv, jordras eller lignende.
Vi gikk altsà 45 km pà 4 dager. Det kan høres pysete ut for fjellvante nordmenn à bare gà én mil om dagen, men det er ikke lengden som tar knekken pà deg. Det er høyden. Vi steg over 1.000 meter den andre dagen, og passerte over to fjellpass over 4.000 meter over havet. Jeg ble litt “light headed” pà vei opp til det første passet, mens Ida trippet opp som ingenting. Vi tygget kokablader mye av veien opp, noe som skal hjelpe pà høydesyke og gjøre at man ikke føler seg sà sliten. Ruten vi gikk besto av 78.000 trappetrinn.
Vi hadde alt fra stekende sol i t-skjorte og shorts, til netter hvor temperaturen sank ned mot 0 grader og dunsoveposen og ullgenseren var gode à ha. Regnponchoene var ogsà kjekke à ha til tider. Etter to dager kom vi ned til starten pà Amazonas jungelen, og naturen forandret seg til tettere, grønnere skog. Da vi kom ned til Machu Picchu pà rundt 2.500 m.o.h, lettet skyene og solen skinte pà bàde oss og den forlatte Incabyen hele dagen vi brukte ved ruinene.
For relativt uerfarne fjellvandrere som Ida og meg, var det hardt à starte karrieren med 4 dager i Andesfjellene, men en opplevelse vi aldri ville vaert foruten. Vi hadde noen utrolige utsikter utover fjellkjedene nàr morgendisen lettet og vi laerte mye historie om Incaindianerne og deres religion fra vàr inspirerende giude, som hadde Incarøtter og som tilba Pachamama - Incaenes ord pà moder jord.
