Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro

Prosjektet mitt er pà Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro, et sykehus her i Antigua. Det ble àpnet og drives av et par munker som ønsket à gi helsehjelp til fattige i og rundt Antigua. Sykehuset det gir bàde helsehjelp til de som ikke har ràd til à dra til en privat lege eller sykehus og det fungerer som et hjem for funksjonshemmede som ikke kan bo sammen med familien sin. Jeg jobber pà avdelingen som heter Hogar de niños Santa Maria. Der bor det 50 barn fordelt pà to rom der det stàr sprinkelsenger pà rekke og rad. Alle barna har en fysisk funksjonshemming, og mange er ogsà mentalt reduserte. Flere av barna er forlatt av foreldrene sine fordi de ikke hadde muligheten til à ha dem hjemme, sà nàr de fleste drar hjem pà sommer/juleferie i 2 mnd er det fortsatt 12 igjen. Pà sykehuset fàr barna dekket primaerbehovene sine med naeringsrik mat, bleieskift, klaer og tak over hodet. Likevel er det mye som stàr igjen. De mangler kos, oppmerksomhet og muligheten til à utnytte ressursene sine. Det er flere som i Norge ville gàtt i en vanlig barnehage og i vanlig skole, og som etterhvert ville fàtt seg en utdanning og jobb. Men, verden er forskjellig og alternativet til mange av disse ungene er à bo sammen med en fattig familie i et hus og et samfunn som ikke har muligheten til à gi dem det de trenger. Sykehuset gjør dermed en fantastisk jobb for de mange 100 menneskene som bor der.
Pà vàr avdeling er vi er mellom 2 og 10 frivillige som kommer innom hver dag og hvis det er varmt nok er det den store hagen/lekeplassen vi oppholder oss mest. Vi tar med ungene ut og gjør det vi kan for à gi flest mulig oppmerksomhet hver dag. Vi hjelper ogsà til med à gi dem mat og à skifte bleie. Det mangler stort sett engangsbleier, sà jeg har blitt ganske sà god til à knytte to kleder sammen til en bleie:) Jeg prøver à vaere litt ergoterapeut og ser f.eks. pà rullestolene og sittestilling. Jeg fàr gjort smàting som à stramme belter, men stort sett er det ikke noe, sà jeg mà bare lukke øynene for ikke à bli lei meg. Det er flere av ungene som jeg har lyst til à ta med meg hjem til Norge, saerlig to brødre som burde gàtt i vanlig barnehage og en bitteliten gutt som ser ut som han er ett, men i virkeligheten er àtte.

Karl har forresten byttet prosjekt pga sommerferie pà skolen, og bygger nà hus for fattige. Han kom glad og fornøyd hjem i dag med sement over hele seg.

Sitter her i et klasserom med veltilpassede ungdommer hvis eneste problem i livet er at laptop’n er i ulage. Det blir liksom noe annet. Skulle gjerne vært der sammen med dere. Våre behov blir trivielle og små, liksom. Takk for at dere sender info, blir nesten vant til at dere ikke er her. Vi har fått skikkelig vinter og på Oppdal var det minus 20 i natt. Snøkanoner går så det kviner, både her og der. Vinterhilsen fra Einar i klasserommet.
