Hvert år arrangerer Indian Institute of Management i Ahmedabad en rekke konkurranser lagt til rette for å teste businesselever fra universiteter rundt om på kloden. Universitetet vi går på her i Australia sender hvert år et team for å delta på dette arrangementet som heter “Confluence”. I år er jeg en del av det teamet.
Ahmedabad er en by vest i India hvor det bor like mange mennesker som i Norge. Jeg har fått høre at selv durkdrevne Indere sliter med varmen i Ahmedabad og Google forteller meg at det for øyeblikket er rundt 35 grader der. Jeg mistenker at det kan bli klamt siden jeg kjøpte meg den billigste dressen jeg fant her i Brisbane. Den har ikke akkurat pustende materiale…
Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) er ifølge de Inderne jeg har snakket med blant Indias mest prestisjefylte skoler og en undersøkelse av internasjonalt anerkjente businessuniversiteter gjort av “The Economist” viste at IIMA var “The Toughest Business School To Get Into”. Til MBA-programmet deres søker rundt 130,000 håpefulle studenter hvert år, hvorav 250 får tilbud om plass.
Teamet jeg er en del av består av en Indisk jente og to Australske karer. Vi skal bo i studentboliger på campus i India og i løpet av Confluence skal vi delta i rundt 10 forskjellige konkurranser og høre en rekke foredrag av sjefene for noen av de største selskapene i Asia. Konkurransene strekker seg fra live trading på den Indiske børsen med ekte penger, til planlegging av oppstart av nye selskap. I tillegg til sjefene for de største organisasjonene i Asia, kommer foredragsholderne blant annet fra Kellogg School of Management, MIT, og London School of Economics. Disse skolene og flere av “Ivy League” skolene i USA pleier også å sende team til Confluence, så konkurransen er hard.
Kvalifiseringsrunden som vi har vært igjennom (og selvsagt kommet godt ut av siden vi skal til India) har gått ut på å få høyest mulig aksjepris for selskapet vårt i en simulering av den virkelige verden. Et veldig spennende spill hvor ting som prisstrategi og markedsføring bestemmer etterspørselen etter varene dine og ting som gjeld/egenkapital bestemmer kredittvurdering med tilhørende rente. Lykke til Kallemann! Du har jo tidligere beskrevet din usedvanlige kløkt for å time forskjellige markeder.
Når er Confluence ferdig? Vi gleder oss forresten stort til å treffe dere snart. Olav har fått tann, det var skiføre i marka forrige helg (regnet bort) og Elisabeth har startet på ønskeliste til jul.

Takk Lakkis. Teamet stikker fra Australia 18. november og kommer tilbake den 24. Så bærer det til New Zealand i to uker med Primus, Ida og et par fra Island. Vi flyr så innom Australia igjen og henter Linn (fra Trondheim) og Ben (fra Brisbane) og stopper alle sammen i Beijing en uke på vei hjem til Noreg - hvor vi forøvrig lander den 15. desember. Da har vi planer om å kommer sporenstreks og se på Olav sin nye tannbørste (og kanskje se over Elisabeth sin ønskeliste). Det har vi gledet oss til lenge nå.
